Common Sense Food

Common sense is not as common as we think it is. Mark Twain said something along those lines. And it is true. When I walk through the supermarket isles little is real food. Not my mom's fair any longer, but corporate fair. High profits for them, low nutritional value for me, no vitality.

"Eat our food, then you'll need our drugs" is the real slogan of our mainstream food suppliers. When it comes to food, I have learned to be pretty particular. My general rule is: if I can grow it myself and prepare it myself in my own kitchen using simple kitchen tools it's OK. (By the way, I also have learned that I should be particular about other things, too: what I read, watch, take for granted, belief, or do. "Corporate" has infiltrated my life more than I ever imagined. I could tell you a thing or two.)

So, I grow more and more of my own food. I cook my own meals. I don't eat something if I don't know what it exactly is. And my food bill is small.

For me, common sense basically means using my natural instincts and intuition in any decision I make in regard to my life. I make an effort to not rely on others' opinions, beliefs, experiences, or "facts", before running it by my own gut and reasoning mind.

Next time I'll go into the specifics of what cooking and eating with common sense means for me.
